JOIN’s model is simple and effective.
We begin with listening. JOIN leaders hold 1-on-1 relational meetings with hundreds of congregants, neighbors, and community members. Through these sessions, we hear a variety of concerns, and with the staff’s guidance, leaders hone in on those concerns that are shared among a cross-section of the community.
Once we have identified shared concerns, leaders move to research: they meet with experts and public officials to learn about the issue and explore potential solutions. From there, they take action, typically through large, community meetings with the public and officials.
Guided by the values of their faith and a belief in democratic participation, JOIN leaders use community organizing not only to address issues but also to nurture relationships among congregations and communities. The relationships that emerge from the organizing process strengthen the foundations of faith and reflect a deeply held belief in the dignity of every person.
